There is an old legend in Sikkim about a Buckmeir travelling across the highlands and forests of Sikkim, it was in search of fragrance that travelled along with it everywhere. Largely remaining unaware it was the musk that was in its torso. Buckmeir, an Alpine Musk from Sikkim remains threatened as a species, either through its migration further North in the cold desert or its lower altitude cousins being hunted down for ‘ittar'.
